Product Review – Bob’s Red Mill Protein

This summer, I’m ramping up my strength training. This is the summer that I will get stronger, and build a more muscular body. To do that, I’ve been focusing on my nutrition, and on my protein intake. I’ve found that I consistently struggle to get the grams of protein recommended for effective muscle building through diet alone. Enter protein powder. Anyone who knows me knows that I love my protein powder. I have at least four different flavors in my cabinet at any given time and am always trying new recipes to use my favorite supplements. I drink a protein shake daily to help keep my nutrition balanced. By using protein powders in cooking, and drinking a shake daily, I can make sure I’m balancing my macros even when my schedule gets hectic.

When the nice people at Bob’s Red Mill offered my the opportunity to participate in their #SummerStrong challenge, and to try their protein powder options, I jumped at the opportunity. I already use and love lots of Bob’s Red Mill products, including their flours, cereals, and bread mixes. I’ve loved every product I’ve tried, so I was sure their nutritional boosters would be great.

I got an amazing protein pack in the mail!

Bob's pack

I had a great new recipe for healthy muffins, so I decided I would start my #SummerStrong challenge with summery, fruity muffins. They turned out great!

Muffins

Here’s the recipe (thanks to my fitness coach Bryan for the base recipe!):

Raspberry Banana Oat Muffins

2 cups old fashioned oats (I used Bob’s Red Mill)

2 mashed bananas

2 eggs

2 tsp baking powder

1 tsp lemon juice

1 cup raspberries

1 scoop Bob’s Red Mill unflavored protein powder

Preheat oven to 425. Mix ingredients together and scoop into muffin tin (fill to the top). Cook at 425 for 5 minutes, then decrease the temperature and cook at 375 for another 12 minutes. Enjoy!

Overall, I was pleased with the protein power. It mixed right in, and I was able to increase the protein in the muffins without adding unwanted ingredients.

Product Review: Shower Pill

My favorite days are multiple workout days. I love a good two-a-day. Between my own workouts and my yoga teaching, I have lots of opportunities for multiple workout days. Multiple workout days lead to serious questions that can only be described as “fit girl problems”. Questions like: “Should I shower now, or 6 hours from now when I get home?” “How bad is it if I don’t wash my hair after this sweaty run, and just wait until tomorrow when I want to look pretty?” And, the real question – “Is it bad to just change clothes and not shower?”

I confess. I don’t shower after every  single workout. Sometimes there isn’t time. Sometimes I just don’t feel like it. Sometimes it doesn’t seem worth it – like those days that I run in the morning and know I have a super sweaty hot yoga class a few hours later. I know this calls my personal hygiene into question. I do shower once a day at minimum. I swear I’m not dirty…I just like to maximize my shower power. I like to earn my shower. Sometimes this results in questionable shower-timing decisions. For a long time, I have used Wet Ones, or other hand wipes in between workouts for a quick clean up. They don’t really do the job. They manage to remove some of the sweat and grime from the gym of the road. I am cleaner, but never really feel clean.

Enter the ShowerPill. I had heard about ShowerPill for a while now from my friends in the fitness community. I don’t know why I never tried them, but I had wanted to. When the team at Fit Approach contacted me about a review opportunity, I jumped at the chance. I had been wanting to try ShowerPill, and now I had the perfect opportunity.

ShowerPill is an antibacterial wipe for the entire body. It is alcohol free, so it’s safe to use on sensitive skin (including the face), and has aloe and vitamin E. I got a 10-pack of ShowerPill to try.

ShowerPill package

I decided that the first ShowerPill use would be a double run day. I had a 14+ mile run in the morning, 2 hours off, then a 5 mile race scheduled in the afternoon. The afternoon race was an important one – I would be representing not only my running club, but the RRCA as a state rep. At a minimum, I couldn’t be smelly. This was an important test. I hopped into a changing room at the local running store (location of run #1) post-run.

ShowerPill test

The first thing that I noticed is that ShowerPill is soft and thick, like a real washcloth. It has a great, fresh scent. It *feels* like it will clean the whole body. It is damp, not wet, and the wipe left my skin feeling soft and clean. I actually felt clean. Really clean.

ShowerPill wipe

I was able to completely wipe my whole body with the ShowerPill wipe and feel completely clean. When I emerged from the changing room, one of my friends commented that I smelled nice. Nice! I was shocked. I was so impressed with the ShowerPill that I carried it around and made everyone feel it. Everyone was struck by how soft and thick the cloth was. It really was fabulous – life changing, even.

For my next ShowerPill test, I wanted to up the ante. I used a ShowerPill wipe after a sweaty workout at my weightlifting gym. The floor is black gym flooring and absolutely disgusting. Any time I touch the floor, I’m covered in black dirty. Combine that with sweat and the whole thing is a mess. The ShowerPill easily handled the dirt. I wiped off and found the cloth almost black. Disgusting, but I was dirt-free. I felt clean. It worked!

Overall, I adore the ShowerPill. Now that I have them, I can’t imagine my life without them. I’m heading for Florida today and I packed my ShowerPills! I can’t go without them. I love, love, love this product.

Note: I was provided complimentary product to conduct this test. I was compensated for this review (though I spent all the money on more ShowerPills!), but the review is honest and my thoughts are my own.

Product Review: MealEnders

If you’ve been reading for any amount of time, you know that I’m a total sugar addict. I’ve tried nearly everything to stop myself eating sugary junk. I know it’s bad for me. I know it’s addictive. But I love it. My biggest weakness is dessert. A meal just doesn’t seem finished until I have had something sweet. It’s a problem.

When I was approached by the team at FitApproach to try MealEnders, I jumped at the chance. MealEnders, are, basically, a lozenge that is scientifically formulated to reduce overeating. MealEnders is different that most stop-eating interventions. It’s a small lozenge, a low calorie, drug free, stimulate free, candy designed to help reduce overeating through sensory science. MealEnders  has two parts: a  sweet,  outer  layer  and  a  cooling inner  core.  The sweet outer layer has a pleasing flavor that tastes like dessert. The inner core is a tingly, cool flavor that clears the palate. It works kind of like brushing your teeth after a meal, but without all the effort. The lozenge takes a long time to dissolve, so your mouth is occupied for a while, allowing the brain time to process the fullness signals coming from the body.

MealEnders packages

When I got my MealEnders, I was skeptical. Let’s be honest, I have tried to kick sugary desserts for ages without success. I love my dessert. I tried the chocolate mint first. My thinking – it’s more “dessert-y” than some of the other flavors. Delicious! My first impression was pleasant. The taste really was sugary and tasty, like a light version of mint ice cream. It took a few minutes for the flavor to fade and the cooling sensation to begin. The cooling sensation worked well with the mint and was pleasing. I finished my lozenge in a few more minutes. And….I didn’t want dessert. I was totally satisfied. I had a great dinner and no dessert and that was enough. It was amazing!

I’ve used up my bag of chocolate mint and have tried the other flavors. I was so impressed with the MealEnders, I gave one bag to my mom to try. MealEnders really help me take control. I still have dessert, but I feel less overpowered by my sugary cravings. MealEnders have done as promised – allowed me to curb my appetite and take control of my cravings.

Review: Drip Drop ORS

If you’ve been a long time follower of this blog, you’ll know that I reviewed Drip Drop ORS a while back. I enjoyed Drip Drop in its original Lemon flavor. Recently, the nice folks at Drip Drop contacted me and asked me to review their latest creation, a berry flavored version of the classic ORS.

Drip Drop is an interesting company – evolving not from a beverage company but from a desire to provide an effective rehydration solution for medial uses. The developer hoped to create an effective hydration solution to help solve the crisis of dehydration in developing nations. Through scientific testing, their product line was developed. The sports drink is an extension of their mission to provide great-tasting hydration to everyone.

In the years since my last review, Drip Drop has grown. Now used by the US Special Forces and a variety of elite athletes, its profile as a company and as a hydration solution has evolved. Drip Drop is now available across the country in most Walgreens stores and is becoming a preferred electrolyte drink.

Drip Drop

It worth note, as I said in my last review, that I dislike most salty-sweet electrolyte drinks. I generally don’t like salt and find most all sports drinks a disgusting combination of sweet and salty. Drip Drop is different. It doesn’t try to be sweet. It’s lightly flavored, but in a natural way, not in a “let’s dump in a ton of sugar to cover up the taste way”. The berry flavor Drip Drop is actually quite tasty. Drip Drop contains no artificial flavors, colors, or preservatives and is 98% natural thanks to their proprietary blend of electrolytes and sugars. I enjoy knowing that I’m getting my hydration needs met, but without sugar, coloring, and flavors like “blue ice” added to my drink. The berry flavor is light, more cherry flavored than blueberry flavored and easy to drink. I enjoyed the flavor and found it refreshing. It actually tastes like berries, not sugar pretending to be berries.

Drip Drop is highly effective. I’ve used it during workouts, after workouts, and even when I had the flu. It’s easy to drink, gentle on my stomach, and provides effective hydration. I find that a relatively small amount works well for me and effectively prevents cramps, the first sign of dehydration for me. Given that Drip Drop is a powder that’s easily mixed in water, it’s easy to store, transport, and use on the go. I can slip one foil packet in my race supplies and mix in just what I need – a whole packet for a whole bottle of water, or smaller amounts for cups of water. It’s a great solution.

Overall, I enjoyed my sample of Drip Drop’s berry flavor and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for a hydration drink that’s simple, effective, and has a fresh taste. Buy your own on Drip Drop’s site, or at an authorized retailer.

Review: Vega One

Recently, my friends at Vega offered to send me a Vega One Pack to review in anticipation of the launch of the Vega One Change challenge . Vega One is a nutritional shake mix that’s perfect for runners on the go. Vega One is not only convenient, it’s plant-based, vegan, and completely dairy, gluten, and soy free. As an athlete who chooses to be dairy and soy free, I have a hard time finding a nutritional shake that meets my needs. Add in my distaste for all things peanut and chocolate, and I rule out most conventional shakes.

Enter Vega One. The Vega One nutritional shake meets my needs. It doesn’t have any dairy or dairy-derived product. It doesn’t have soy. It has 15 grams of protein, 6 grams of fiber, and is a great source of vitamins, minerals, and valuable omega fatty acids. With antioxidants and probiotics naturally occurring in the plants used to make the mix, it’s packed with healthy goodness. If that wasn’t enough, it comes in a vanilla flavor that actually tastes like vanilla. With no added sugar, the vanilla is vanilla-y without being sweet or overpowering.

I got my box of Vega One packets and made my first smoothie. I have to warn you – it didn’t look like much. Since Vega One is plant-based, the mix itself is slightly green. Don’t be alarmed. It mixes up with ingredients and disappears. My first effort with the mix was a simple one packet plus a glass of almond milk. It was surprisingly tasty. The vaguely brown color didn’t deter me since the taste was light and fresh. Vega One mixes up smoothly and doesn’t have a chalky feel. I liked it. The next day, I attempted a more challenging concoction – a Vega One fruit smoothie. I added one packet of the mix, almond milk, coconut water, and a bunch of frozen fruit I had on hand. The resulting smoothie was quite tasty. The vanilla mixed well with the fruit and created a milkshake like consistency. It was so good my husband stole it from me. He’s now taken custody of half of my box of mix. He loves it!

Overall, I enjoyed Vega One and would recommend it to anyone looking for a vegan-friendly protein mix. Today, Vega launches their OneChallenge. This event challenges you to make one healthy change in your diet. Check it out here. As a runner, my biggest problem is snacking! I’m always hungry. For my one change, I’m substituting one late-night post run snack with a Vega One smoothie.

AdvoCare Spark Giveaway!

I have a sensitive running stomach and have looked for a long time to find a pre-run drink that gave me energy and valuable electrolytes without upsetting my stomach. I tried, and loved, Spark, a great drink mix made by Advocare. Spark tastes great, is easy to mix, and isn’t sweet or salty. It’s completely dairy free and gives me energy without that “I just had an energy drink” feeling.

Advocare products are sold by independent distributors. Recently, I caught up with Lindsey, an Advocare distributor to learn more about the products and her business. If you’d like to try Spark, read to the end and enter to win your very own sample.

1. What attracted you to Advocare? What attracted me to Advocare was the safety and efficacy of the products. The products are the foundation of the business and for me, it was important to find something that was safe to put in my body, but also find something that worked and wasn’t a quick fix. The 24 Day Challenge helped to jumpstart my health and fitness and really taught me how to eat right and make a positive lifestyle change. Once I did the research and saw the products worked, I was in. From there, my boyfriend Andrew and I were introduced to the business opportunity. Advocare found us at the right time. If we could make an extra $500-$1000 a month to get ahead of our debt and help other people at the same time, why not? This quickly turned into something very serious for us. After attending meetings, mixers and meeting people within the organization, we could see the value of the Success System and what Advocare could truly provide for us. We both are 25 years old and have short term goals, including getting ahead of our consumer debt, undergrad debt, not having to worry about rent or bills, going back to school for our Master’s and Advocare has allowed us to do just that through supplemental income.
Within Advocare, this is a common question that is asked- “What does Advocare look like to you?”. For us, we see this as a Plan B right now, but hopefully in the future we hope Advocare will become our Plan A and help us to design our lives the way WE want and enjoy life with financial freedom. That is what we see, that is our vision. However, to the person next to us, it could mean an extra boost to your day with SPARK or an extra $100 a month to help fund your kid’s school field trips. Everyone’s need or vision is different and it is all great. That’s what drew me to Advocare. There is no pressure, you go at your own pace, whatever works best for you and that is okay. I am not one to be forced into something and we all have that thought run through our heads “ is that one of those things?” I don’t know much about that, but what I do know is that in just a short 6 months, I have never felt better. I have energy throughout the day, like I have never experienced before. I’m living a healthier and more positive lifestyle, and earning extra income by helping people (oh and I forgot to mention—all part time, while working a full time job). For me, this works and I want to share it because who wouldn’t want to get in on all this?!
Lastly, the support and team that we are on in Orange County, CA, Team Momentum is something that is so unique. You are surrounded by people who all want better and that want to see you succeed. We have formed great friendships and have learned so much from our team. To know, that you can have any vision you choose, a supportive team to guide you and no matter what, always have your back, is the most amazing feeling. We look forward to 2014 and powering forward!

2. What was the first product you tried? What did you like? Do you still use it? SPARK! I looooveee it and yes, I use it every day. SPARK helped me to wake up in the morning, feel energized and have that mental focus at work without the 3-4PM crash. I had never found anything like this, not to mention its sugar free, vitamin packed and delicious!

3. When and why did you decide to become a distributor? What do you like best about the company? I decided to become a distributor shortly after Andrew decided to, about 6 months ago. Once I completed the 24 Day Challenge, dropped 10 lbs, a total of 14 inches and had everlasting energy, I couldn’t say no to the products. I quickly saw the business opportunity and wanted to learn more. Advocare found Andrew and I at a time where making an extra $500 a month by simply referring products, was incredibly appealing. We jumped right in. What I like best about the company is the 20+ years of experience, Science & Medical board and the Sports Advisory board. This company has the top doctors and professionals in the field. You will not find the type of people, leadership and vision Advocare provides anywhere else. Advocare is a lifestyle; a way of life— feeling great, setting and achieving your goals, whatever that may look like to you and helping other people. In 6 months, we will be making an extra $1,000 a month to wipe out our consumer debt and help to pay our rent, so we no longer have to have a roommate.

4. What’s your favorite product? What are the benefits and uses? That is a tough question! I’d have to say my favorite product is Cataylst. Catalyst is great for anyone who is looking to tone up and slim out. We like to call it the “Saran Wrap” for your muscles. This product allows you to shred fat and protect lean muscle.

5. What is your most popular product? Our most popular products are SPARK and MNS. SPARK, a sugar free mental focus drink, great for Moms to help kick start their day and maintain it throughout the day or it is great as a pre-workout drink as well. MNS (Metabolic Nutrition System) is Advocare’s core nutrition and great for anyone looking to loose weight, gain energy or increase general overall wellness. There are 3 types of MNS to serve just that- MNS C (weight loss), MNS E (increase energy) and MNS 3 (overall wellness). Both products are what I’ve continued to stay on after the 24 Day Challenge to help maintain nutrition and energy.

6. I’m already using some Advocare products, how do I learn more about other products that might benefit me? That’s great! You can simply connect with the person who shared Advocare with you and they can help guide you to what is best for you and your goals or you can always visit that person’s microsite (for example, mine www.evolvefitadvocare.com) and research under the Shop section for each product’s Product Page, full of information regarding nutrition facts and benefits of each product. Lastly, which is one of my favorites being the HODO (highly organized detailed) person that I am, contact Advocare’s Research & Development Customer Service Department to get your questions answered.

7. I have food allergies. How can I be sure Advocare products are right for me? Reach out to the person who shared Advocare with you, contact Advocare directly or simply login to the website to view each product’s information and ingredients.

8. What’s a 24-Day Challenge? The 24 Day Challenge is a program designed to create healthy eating habits and facilitate a positive healthy lifestyle change. Best part? You get to EAT REAL FOOD throughout. The program is comprised of a 10 day cleanse (that is “gentle and uneventful” I might add) to clean out your body’s toxins and prepare to take in core nutrition with days 11-24 with MNS. And it is on sale for a limited time now. Please contact us for more information!

9. Is there anything else you’d like readers to know? I want the readers to know if there is something you are looking for whether it is a meal replacement shake in the morning because you are always on the run or looking to make a couple hundred dollars a month. We would love to link arms with you and help guide you to whatever you are looking for!

10. How can readers get in contact with you to place an order? Please contact me via email Lindsey.volpintesta@gmail.com or simply by visiting my website at www.evolvefitadvocare.com and connect with me that way!

Gear Review: Lock Laces

Recently, I was approached by the nice people at Lock Laces about doing a review of their unique laces. In truth, I had been thinking of trying Lock Laces for some time, ever since a fellow triathlete recommended them as a way to save time in transition. I was delighted to have been offered the opportunity to try the laces.

Lock Laces are tie-free stretchy, elastic laces. The laces are one size fits all, 48 inches in length and are cut to size for each shoe. The laces are made of a polyester-covered bungee cord and the lock itself nylon with a little tiny spring inside. Lock Laces come in a variety of colors and are shipping in a little plastic baggie with the instructions printed right on the bag.

Lock Laces

I got my Lock Laces and was eager to try them. I followed the simple instructions (lace, cut, lock) and was laced up and ready to run within five minutes.

Lock Laces in use

Lock Laces close up

The laces seemed stretchy, but as soon as I got my feet in my shoes, I noticed that they felt secure. I did a few awkward, 80’s-calisthenic style stretches to see if my feet would slip in my shoes. Nothing. My feet were totally secure with the Lock Laces on my shoes.

My first run in Lock Laces was totally uneventful. I actually forgot I was wearing a test lace in my shoe. I suppose that’s what you want from shoelaces – they were so good they were unnoticeable. My feet were totally comfortable throughout the run. The next step was to try Lock Laces in a triathlon. I had seen many other triathletes using Lock Laces and imagined that they might cut down on transition time. I was right. I used Lock Laces in a sprint triathlon and shaved a few seconds off my transition time. It might not seem like much, but those few seconds can make a big difference. What’s more, as my feet started to swell from the transition between bike and run, the laces expanded, leaving my feet comfortable and secure. I was impressed.

I liked my Lock Laces so much that I sent a pair to my mom. My mom logs more than 30 miles a week most weeks and works out in Florida. She often has to stop during walks and runs to retie her shoelaces after her feet swell. I thought Lock Laces would be the perfect solution. My mom had this to say:

I replaced my standard laces with Lock Laces following the simple instructions on the package.  I wanted to give them a true test, walking and all day.  I did my walk and was pleasantly surprised, I did not need to retie my shoes.  Usually I need to adjust the laces after about 5 minutes on my left foot (arthritis), but not today.  Hmmm I thought.  I continued to wear the shoes all day and did not adjust the laces at all. Not even at the end of the day when my feet are a bit swollen and need additional room.  I am usually continually making small adjustments, but not this day.  I am not going back to the standard laces, I’m sold on the ease and convenience of the Lock Laces.

Yay! Two satisfied customers. I have been wearing my Lock Laces for about a month now and love them for humid days and conditions where I know my feet could use a little “breathing room”. They are durable and have stayed locked in place. I love not having to tie and retied my shoes.

Overall, I highly recommend Lock Laces. Whether you are a triathlete who wants to save valuable seconds, or someone who wants to stop worrying about shoelaces, Lock Laces are perfect!

Product Review (and Giveaway!): Tasty Bite Foods

I love to run and I love food, so I was happy to have the opportunity to review a selection of Tasty Bite packaged foods. The nice people at Tasty Bite sent me a selection that included channa masala, pad thai, lemongrass ginger noodles, and a selection of rices.

Read on for your chance to win a great prize pack from the folks at Tasty Bite.

I tried the channa masala first. Channa masala is an Indian dish of slow roasted chick peas with spices. I tore the corner off the bag, popped it in the microwave, and microwaved it for one minute. In just a minute, I had a tasty meal.

Channa masala

The channa masala was delicious and honestly as good as what I can get from the Indian place near my work. The dish was vegan, gluten free, and Kosher, perfect for runners with dietary needs. It was also crazy easy to make. Just one minute in the microwave in the package it came in. It doesn’t get easier.

My husband loves pad thai and was eager to try a pad thai he could not only eat out of the bag, but could prepare in one minute. He claimed the pad thai packet and made it himself. It didn’t look like much…

Pad Thai

but it was very tasty. The spiciness level was just right for me – it had a hint of spice, but wasn’t overwhelming. My husband loved the pad thai so much he bought an entire case immediately and took it to work for meals on the go.

Next, we tried thai lime rice. It, too, was ready in a minute in the microwave and was fluffy, evenly cooked, and delicious. I honestly have no idea why I would make rice any other way. The rice was prefect. I couldn’t believe it came from a little packet.

Overall, I loved everything I tried from Tasty Bite. With dozens of choices that are vegan, gluten free, and Kosher, there’s something for everyone. Tasty Bite packets use no preservatives and stay fresh for 18 months in the packet without cooking or refrigeration. Tasty Bite packets are easy to make – most need just one minute in the microwave and come in microwave-safe packets – and a great choice for busy athletes. The packets don’t need refrigeration and are easy to transport. With prices ranging between $2 and $4 per packet, the meals are also a great bargain. I admit, I would love to be able to eat whole foods I prepare at home for every meal, but that isn’t always possible with my busy life. Tasty Bite is a great solution!

Tasty Bite is also a company whose mission and vision I can support. The company began in 1985 with a commitment to community and sustainability. Here’s a little description from their website:

As part of our commitment to our employees, we provide amongst the best health insurance available in both the US and India.  We have a scholarship fund for the education of the children of our factory workers.  Tasty Bite has a disaster relief program, where food is moved to provide relief in the case of natural disasters such as Hurricane Katrina, the Asian Tsunami and the earthquake in Haiti.  Tasty Bite also has unique programs in energy and agriculture.  Today, 80% of the energy used in the Tasty Bite factory comes from renewable sources such as sugarcane byproducts and food and crop waste.  Also, the Tasty Bite farm is used as a demonstration farm to educate community farmers on high yielding, sustainable agricultural methods.  As we work toward delivering great-tasting flavors of the world to you, we strive to make a difference in our own community as well.

I love it! I company with a conscience that makes great tasting food that’s easy to make. I’m sold. And you will be, too. If you would like to try Tasty Bite for yourself, enter below to win a free prize pack. The entry is open to US residents only, sorry international folks.

WarmFX: Product Review and Giveaway

The nice folks over at BodyGlide have done two great favors for DrRachelRuns. First, they selected this humble blog as the Blog of the Month. Yay! They also offered to send me a sample of their new product, WarmFX, to review. Keep reading for a chance to win your very own WarmFX prize in a great giveaway.

BodyGlide, makers of the anti-chafing balm we all love, recently added WarmFX to their lineup. The product was designed as an anti-pain balm to be used for relief of minor pain and soreness in muscles and joints. Warm FX can be used prior to workouts to speed the warming up of tired or achy muscles. The packaging says it’s safe for daily use and helpful with over-exertion, backache, arthritis, bruises, strains, cramps, and sprains. It sounded like the perfect product for runners.

WarmFX comes in an easy-application tube just like their regular anti-chafing stick. It’s a .45 ounce tube, perfect for travel. It’s important to note that though the packaging is similar to the anti-chafing stick, the cap on WarmFX is red, making it easy to tell the products apart.

I decided to test WarmFX first for recovery on a spot on the outside of my hip that’s often tight and sore. The WarmFX is easy to apply. It is the consistency of deodorant so it goes on smoothly and easily without a sticky feel. The menthol in WarmFX gives it a minty, slightly medicinal scent. It smells like original Double Mint gum and the scent fades upon application. The scent does linger, but it’s quite light and I didn’t find it bothersome.

Immediately upon application, the WarmFX feels smooth and dry. It starts to heat up after about a minute and reached full strength for me in about 3-4 minutes. Given that the more product that’s applied the hotter it gets, I was conservative in my fist application. One easy swipe was noticeably warm, but not quite at a therapeutic level. I tried a few more swipes. One hefty swipe, or two thins coats was plenty for me. After four thin coats it got quite hot and I concluded my test. The heat lasted about an hour in the location I used it. I enjoyed the warming sensation and thought WarmFX did a nice job of relaxing the cranky muscle.

Next, I tried WarmFX on my calves before a run to warm them up. I stayed conservative with one thin swipe of product – there weren’t many options for removal out on the trail if I overdid it. Just barely warm, I liked the heat on my calves. They were noticeably looser on the early hills on the route. It is worth note that the heat of the direct sun plus the WarmFX created a significant warming effect. Use caution if you intend to apply WarmFX to body parts that will be warmed naturally by the sun, or will be warmed under thick clothing. I left my tube of WarmFX in my car during a hot and sunny day and just like the anti-chafe stick, it didn’t melt.

Overall, I liked WarmFX. I liked the scent, I loved the ease of application, and I enjoyed the adjustable strength of custom application. It is a nice product to keep in a running bag for pre- and post-workout use.

Note: Though I was provided the sample to review, I was not otherwise compensated for this review and it represents my honest opinion and experience using the Warm FX product.
